District 17 Umpire Program

Requirements to participate in the program: 

• ALL AGES 12 and up are welcome to attend

• 12 years old and up: Little League recommends a junior umpire to only oversee games that are at least 2 divisions below their current program. So, a mature 12-year old in Majors could start with Farm.

• Reasonable availability to umpire week night games (games start at 5pm and end by 7pm) and Saturday games, typically mornings and early afternoons. • Attend classroom and on-field instruction and commit to learn rules, umpire  mechanics, and game management skills, and implement with confidence  

Goals for the program:  

• Provide capable umpires (plate) for Farm and AA games • Provide opportunity for all umpires to build on their baseball knowledge, learn a new life- long vocation, and earn volunteer/service hour credit! We are exploring the possibility pay with a work permit.

Game assignments will be made based on your availability and an attempt to spread  the assignments across the pool of umpires. Remember, your game assignments  represent your commitment to the players, coaches, and the league. No shows will not  be tolerated and will jeopardize your participation in this program.

Equipment:

Mask, Chest protector, Shin Guards, Plain black hat - recommend 4 or 6 stitch umpire hat. Black ball bag, Black belt, Black shoes and socks.  Black and White shoes are ok. Athletic cup and supporter (required for males), Indicator, Plate Brush
